THE WHOLE CHILD APPROACH

Shifting the focus from mere academic achievements to long-term development and success.

A WHOLE NEW APPROACH
FOR A WHOLE NEW WORLD

The 21st century demands a whole new approach to the way we are educating learners and preparing them for college, careers, and citizenship. Confirmed by research, practice and common sense, the Whole Child Approach to learning develops and prepares students for the challenges and opportunities of today and tomorrow through answering the learners’ diverse needs through the involvement of everyone, from teachers, schools, parents, and the community.

75 YEARS OF HOLISTIC LEARNING

For 75 Years, ASCD has been at the forefront of transitioning the focus from narrowly defined academic achievement to the promotion of long-term development and success of each child. Through this approach, ASCD supports educators, families community members, and policymakers as they move from a vision about educating the whole child to sustainable, collaborative actions. ASCD, in partnership with REX Book Store brings the Whole Child Initiative to the Philippines to engage and enable partners in education, the one village that will ensure that Filipino learners are Healthy, Safe, Engaged, Supported, and Challenged.

A WHOLE WORLD
FOR THE WHOLE CHILD

For the Whole Child to be Healthy, Safe, Engaged, Supported, and Challenged, the coordination of policy, progress, and practice is important. Thus having the whole community involved in a child’s nourishment is key to his/her long-term success. The Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model combines and builds on elements of the traditional coordinated school health approach and the whole child framework. Programs to enable this kind of learning needs the full participation of everyone, like the African proverb says: It takes a village to raise a child.

A WHOLE CHILD

What does it take to secure the success of each child in the 21st century? Our future relies so much on how we're going to handle things today. Are We Educating the Whole Child?
