Values Education in a fast paced world
As the future becomes the present, gone are the days when we are required to travel far to get the information we need. The advent of the internet and social media has made information about virtually anything available to us anywhere and anytime. This change in the way we communicate and acquire knowledge has not only affected the way do our daily activities but even more heavier on the education sector. Students no longer need to spend a lot of time in research and more time in understanding and absorbing the lessons. This is just one of the many changes technology has provided us over the years.
As most Filipinos spend more than 5 hours a day surfing the web, it has become even harder to know what our children are learning everyday. This 21st Century calls for new education. The world has become more sophisticated with technology… more complicated too. People need to elevate their skills in order to maneuver in this fast-changing world. Still, what is essential to being a decent human being has not changed… even DepEd emphasizes this in the foundational development of the child: Pagpapakatao, Values Education, Ethics, Respect, Pagpapahalaga sa Kalikasan.
In this new age, we believe it is even more important to remember our fundamentals. As we have talked earlier about how we always looked back at our reason for being, we believe the same goes with education. At the core, whatever we learn or try to achieve, we are all human beings and we must not forget the importance of our values throughout our learning. This is why Character Formation has always been part of the REX Symphony of Learning Solutions. We believe that integrating values with each lesson is a way for us to help build a more harmonious nation where everyone contributes to its betterment.
Along with the Whole Child Approach, we believe Character Formation combined with 21st Century Literacies and Skills can really help in nurturing a child / person that is healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. True to what we always talk about, “It takes a village to raise a child”, thats is why we always partner with people with the same vision like CMN-Asia (Who helps us create supplementary materials for religion and social studies where students can be more immersed in the gospel and recent events) and our partner educators so we can help each other create a better and brighter future for everyone. We also provide seminars and workshops for educators to address current problems and issues in teaching Christian Living Education (CLE) and Values Education in the 21st Century and of course, we offer more than just textbooks for Religion and Values but supplementary materials as well like our Journal Magazines, Religion Modules, and Religion as Core of Curriculum (RCC) Workbooks As we move forward, we are always thinking of ways to improve our offerings to achieve this goal. Making it easier for educators to teach more relevant values formation lessons to students and for students to go beyond just learning skills but knowing how to use them for the benefit of others as well.
It has always been at the core of REX Book Store to provide learner centric education and we have continuously evolved for 67 years to address the growing needs of each learner. We hope in the coming years to engage and enable more partners in education (schools, teachers, parents, industries, and communities) so we can be of service not just to the education sector and our country, but to the world as well.
