My Beloved Educators, Our Partners In Education For Nation-Building, on behalf of REX Book Store and my family I thank you for the meaningful engagements you allow us to have with you. Over the years, I have truly appreciated each and every encounter with you… passionate individuals who dedicate their lives in moulding our nation’s future.
We opened Aecon 2017 by looking into what is happening in the world today and how it impacts our learners. These past two days, we gained learnings and insights from our guest speakers and from one another. But we sometimes rush into trying to find answers to our questions or address the challenges we face as educators. In this busy, ever changing and complex 21st century world, it is easy to get lost in the HOWs and WHATS of the things we do. We often forget the reason behind all of the work we do. As it is important to know how and what we are going to do, we have to remember – WHY DO WE DO THE THINGS THAT WE DO?
Why do we do the things that we do? We do it Para Sa Bata – IT IS ABOUT EACH CHILD and how we could secure his success. EVERY SINGLE DAY, it is about THE CHILD and how we can better inspire him and keep him engaged. Our time is spent thinking, planning and meeting for and implementing the curriculum, the various assessments, instructional strategies, faculty development etc etc. These are the same matters WE IN REX prepare for, hoping we could be of assistance to you, our partner educators.
Our children are our nation’s most valuable resource… our hope for a brighter future…. YET from one CNN-Philippines program it was mentioned that with the more than 600,000 Filipinos who graduate from college each year, 65% of them ARE NOT employable. They could not meet the demands of employers in terms of communication as well as cognitive, behavioral, and functional skills.
And in a century with fast technological advancements and globalization – our world, our children’s world, is rapidly evolving and becoming complex. MORE THAN EVER, partnerships and collaborations are critical as we have a big task to fulfill – we need to close the gap between WHAT and HOW our children learn, to WHY they need to learn. We must be able to allow them to discover their very own WHYs…This will lead them to their own meaningful lives…hoping that they will not be part of the problem, and instead, actively take part in creating solutions. We must also be able to form their character and strengthen spirituality for them to have perseverance, empathy, drive, and the desire to contribute and serve their communities, the nation, the world.
In REX we started improving our organization by internalizing our WHY – our reason for being, which is PARA SA BATA , our true north. Our WHATs and HOWs shall align to our WHY…. from Rex Publishing, Rex Digital, Rex Institute for Student Excellence – RISE, and to our Resource for Educators and Academic Professionals (REAP)… from our texbooks, digital learning tools, assessment programs, work immersions and OJT programs, and professional development offerings.
And we shall walk the talk… practice what we preach, such as the 4Cs. We shall be better in communicating with one another, be more collaborative, be critical thinkers and creative in our hows and whats. Rex shall be a whole employer hoping our employees will become whole individuals, whole parents, whole community members who will raise whole children… who shall be moulded well to be part and do his part in nation-building para sa bayan.
We purposively engaged with Centers of Excellence in Education. With the grace of God, we have been fortunate to be collaborating with ASCD, P21, Miriam College and as well as with you and the educational institutions you represent. Moreover, partnerships with industries and community heads are also ongoing. With all these collaborations, we strengthened our learning solutions to be more learner-centered … and this will be a continuing initiative Para Sa Bata. More and more partners have signed up for Isang Nayon – the village that nurtures the Filipino whole child.
We as educators, YOU and I and the REX Book Store family, share a common WHY. Our work is fueled by our dedication towards the education of the Whole Child — for their future, a better future, a brighter future. With this, it is our aspiration to have each of you join Isang Nayon and become active participants in securing the success of each learner. This is OUR journey, OUR responsibility. We are liable to the Lord even – how well did we take care of HIS children? We shall not let ourselves and our children be part of the lost generation.
My Beloved Educators, Our Partners In Education, I urge you to join us in Isang Nayon – Isang Nayon is ALL OF US, PARA SA BATA, PARA SA BAYAN.
TAYONG LAHAT, KAPIT-BISIG, PARA SA BATA , PARA SA BAYAN
