Developing Career Ready Senior High School Students
As our country develops more programs to ensure that learners are being trained to obtain competencies, work ethic and values relevant to pursuing further education and / or joining the world of work. The Department of Education (DepEd) further strengthens its K-12 Basic Education Program with the issuance of the DepEd Order No.30, s. 2017. Also described as the Guidance for Work Immersion, this was issued issued last June 5, 2017 as the basis for the implementation of work immersion in all Senior High Schools.
The work immersion program is a required subject that will provide learners with different opportunities like: to become familiar with the work place, employment simulation, and apply their competencies in areas of specialization / applied subject in authentic work environments.
The program aims to help develop among the learners life and career skills, and prepare them to make decisions on post-secondary education or employment. Through partnership building, DepEd hopes that the Partner Institutions will provide learners with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience and additional learning resources.
Partnership for Work Immersion
REX Book Store, with its dedication to educate the whole child in the 21st Century, recently partnered with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila Educational System (RCAM ES) Cluster 5 & 6 to launch REX’ first Work Immersion Fair for SHS. Held last August 18 at the Manila Cathedral School, over 700 students from the cluster schools were interviewed by professionals from the REX family to help them decide where they best fit in the work immersion program.
After undergoing the interviews, these students will then be designated to different departments at REX and do their work immersion at the REX Knowledge Center for 10 days to help them learn and be exposed to the different ways they can contribute in the working world.
“The SHS Work Immersion program will help our students be prepared and aware about the the various opportunities they can have in the working world. With REX’ commitment to education, we are sure that partnering with them is a good choice for us and our students”
– Doctor Jesusa Bulotano, Manila Cathedral School Principal
